The one-dimensional, solute transport model TETrans has been integrated into the geographic information system ARC/INFO for the purpose of estimating solute loading to the groundwater of a nonpoint-source pollutant, specifically salinity. Approximately 2400 hectares of the Broadview Water Distict located on the westside of the San Joaquim Valley of central California were used as the test site to evaluate the methodology. A complete data set has been assembled and entered into the geographic information system (GIS) database. Results of the TETrans calculations are presented for the main growing season of 1991. Display maps show calculated distributions of salinity through the root zone and estimations of salt-loading to groundwater. TETrans uses the GIS as a spatial database from which to draw its input parameters. |
